Round Towers reserve play Kingdom (Saturday 20th June 2009)
With the reserve team having to rely on some of the senior players from the previous game to make up the numbers. Towers took to the field with a strong side and from the throw in were putting the Kingdom defence under pressure. Timmy O Donovan opened the scoring after playing a one two shot over for the first point of the game, this was to be extended further moments later. The Towers defence was holding strong and Niall Dillon at full back was clearing up a lot of the Kingdom attacks and playing simple ball out of defence set up a number of the towers attacks.
With the ball being played into space and allowing the on coming player to turn and take on his marker, on one such occasion Craig Mullin collected and rounding two kingdom defenders found himself in space in front of goal where he shot low and hard into the corner past the kingdom keeper, this was to be followed only ten minutes later after Paul Doyle breaking a high ball into the towers forward found Craig in space for his second goal of the game. Half time score Towers 2:04 Kingdom 0:04
With the management making an few changes at half time bringing Danny O'Donovan from between the post into centre field and Declan taking up his place between the posts. From the throw in Danny O Donovan collected the breaking ball and from outside the twenty one sent in a high ball for undoubtedly the best score of the game. This was to be followed five minutes later by his second chance only to go shoot wide of the posts, the comment from the sideline was lightning does not strike twice ( what stonch support we have). Towers were the more dominant team in the second half and placed the Kingdom under pressure, resultinfg in ball dropping short of the target and into the keepers hands and finding players in space set up a number of towers attacks. Timmy O Donovan extended towers lead further with his second score of the game only to be followed minutes later by Paul Doyle and Kieran Mc Guire.
Kingdom for the last ten minutes rallied and shot over to bring the score within two points before Timmy O Donovan gave the towers a four point lead with six minutes to go. In the last few minutes of the game the Kingdom shot over to bring the game within one score and from the kickout pressed hard and finding space infront of goal shot low and hard only for Declan Egan to pull off a great save and prevent a certain goal to level the match.
