Round Towers Annual Dinner Dance 2009
The Round Towers held their annual dinner dance on Saturday 28th February 2009 at the Croydon Park Hotel and the evening was a huge success with approximately 140 people
attending.The following awards were handed out on the night;
Hall of fame: Mick Collins
Club man of the year: Tim Fergus
Player of the year: Declan Egan
Most improved player of the year: Damien Shelvey
Ladies club person of the year: Teresa Maguire
Minor club person of the year: Sean Hickey
Dermot O'Brien presented the Hall of Fame Award to Mick Collins (pictured top, left) for his contribution to the Towers throughout the years. Mick has won numerous awards not only with the Round Towers but also with London and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Ollie Kavanagh presented the Club man of the year to Tim Fergus for his work in promoting the club Lottery. Tim spends a lot of time each weekend travelling between the Irish Pubs in Clapham and Tooting and even North London collecting money from the sale of lottery tickets.
Sean Flaherty presented Player of the year to Declan Egan (pictured right) and most improver
Player went to Damien Shelvey.
Kelly Ann McGovern presented ladies club person of the year to Teresa Maguire for all her work in
managing the ladies team in 2008.
Declan Egan presented Sean Hickey with minor club man of the year for all his achievements.
Sean was also promoted to the senior team in 2008 and made the corner forward position his own.
Also presented on the night were the Reserve League winner’s medals to the 2008 Towers reserve team.
Kevin Kelly presented a cheque for £1025 that was raised on the night from the stand up bingo to Eoin Kelly for his charity the Rosie Appeal. Eoin's daughter suffers from a rare form of leukaemia and was very grateful to the Round Towers for their donation to his fundraising event. Eoin has set himself a goal of raising money for Leukaemia research through a sponsored cycle from Lands End to South Wales where he will then board a ferry to County Wicklow and cycle from there to Belfast. From here he will then board a second ferry and travel to Stranraer and cycle along the West coast of Scotland up through the Trussocks and finish at John O' Groats. The total distance travelled will be 1100 miles in 11 days.
